In a way, Ryzom is an old-school game: no real quests to speak of, xp-grind, group-focused play, no fast action, no handholding whatsoever, a death penalty. Here's what I think what went wrong and why many people don't "get" the game: During that time I tried to get friends (both RL and from other online communities) into the game and collected a lot of responses from theses friends, mostly responses why they didn't like the game. I played Ryzom for about 2 years, started in closed beta, and eventually left because 2 years is a long time for a game. And Saga of Ryzom is just boring, non fun and soundtrackless.

Overall, that is what I would say boring and non-fun gameplay means to me. I couldn't really see what my long term goals could be or to strive for(albeit I didn't look very hard) but most games at least give you a teaser so you have something to look forward to.

Graphically, some areas look great, but the mobs and character models look and feel like Runes of Magic. 1 fun point.Ĭrafting at first was cool, but then having to search every 5 steps was down right annoying, -1 fun point. Too much overthinking on that system bogged me down. I found the Stanza system interesting at first but then tedious and annoying the more I leveled my skills. That being said it's not the ONLY reason, I didn't subscribe after completing the trial. Ryzom has nothing, not even ambient music and it completely detaches me from the game. I really like my MMORPG's to have music that draws me in, helps with the immersion.
